Dovetail alternatives for product teams
Dovetail is built for research repositories. If you need customer feedback to turn into your roadmap, here are the alternatives, what they cost and who they fit.
Short answer: If you run a research programme, the closest Dovetail alternatives are research repositories such as Condens, Looppanel, Aurelius, Marvin and Great Question. If you're a product team that wants customer feedback to turn into the roadmap, look at feedback-to-roadmap tools instead: Devplan, Productboard, Enterpret and Canny. The right choice depends less on features than on what you want the feedback to become.
A note before we start. We build Devplan, one of the tools in this list. We've kept the comparison fair and sourced every price from each vendor's own pricing page, so you can check it yourself.
How much does Dovetail cost in 2026?
Dovetail describes itself as a customer intelligence platform. Its pricing page lists two plans:
- Free: $0, no card required. One channel and one project, with chat and AI summaries inside that project.
- Enterprise: custom pricing, through sales.
There is no self-serve paid plan in between. A small team that outgrows the free plan has to talk to sales, which is one of the most common reasons teams start looking at alternatives.
Why product teams look for a Dovetail alternative
Dovetail is strong at what it was built for: turning interviews, calls, tickets, surveys and reviews into evidence that research, design, sales and marketing can share. Product teams usually look elsewhere for one of three reasons:
- Pricing. The jump from a one-project free plan to an Enterprise contract.
- They don't run a research programme. Many product teams never schedule formal interviews. Their customer evidence sits in sales calls, support tickets and Slack.
- Insight stops before the spec. Dovetail doesn't list a code repository integration, so its themes aren't grounded in what's already built, and someone still has to turn them into a spec and tickets. Our Devplan vs Dovetail page goes through this in detail.
First decide: research repository or feedback to roadmap?
| If you want to... | You need | Look at |
|---|---|---|
| Run interviews and studies, recruit participants, and store and tag research | A research repository | Condens, Looppanel, Aurelius, Marvin, Great Question |
| Turn customer requests from calls, tickets and Slack into what you build next | A feedback-to-roadmap tool | Devplan, Productboard, Enterpret, Canny |
Research repository alternatives
Condens. A UX research repository and AI analysis platform. There's a 15-day free trial rather than a free plan. Lite starts at €15 a month for one contributor, and Business is €500 a month paid yearly for five contributors (pricing). Best for: research teams in Europe that want a focused repository. Watch out for: prices are in euros, and extra contributors cost extra.
Looppanel. UX research analysis and a repository, with AI. No free plan, but a 15-day free trial. Solo costs $49 a month, or $540 a year, for one editor; Pro is $395 a month for five editors (pricing). Best for: a solo researcher or small research team. Watch out for: the jump from Solo to Pro is large.
Aurelius. A research repository and insights platform. 30-day free trial. Professional is $49 a month and Premium $199 a month, both billed yearly (pricing). Best for: teams that want a repository at a predictable price. Watch out for: the listed prices assume yearly billing.
Marvin. A customer insights platform with AI. The free plan includes 5 file uploads a month and 2 full seats. Paid plans are priced through sales (pricing). Best for: teams that want AI analysis across many research files. Watch out for: no public prices for paid plans.
Great Question. An all-in-one UX research platform for recruiting participants, scheduling, incentives and sharing insights. 14-day free trial. Self-serve costs $129 per seat a month, or $1,290 per seat a year, up to 5 seats (pricing). Best for: teams whose bottleneck is recruiting and running studies. Watch out for: per-seat pricing adds up quickly.
Feedback-to-roadmap alternatives
Devplan. Our product. Devplan reads customer feedback from your calls, support tickets and Slack, groups the requests that ask for the same thing, and counts who asked and which deals are waiting. It then writes the PRD and tech spec grounded in your code, creates the tickets in Jira or Linear, and tracks the work until it ships. There's no research programme to run and no per-seat price: one shared credit pool, starting free with $100 in credits (pricing). Best for: product teams at B2B software companies that want feedback to reach the roadmap and the code. Watch out for: it isn't a tool for running interviews or recruiting participants.
Productboard. Describes itself as an agentic product management system, with feedback, roadmaps and an AI agent, Spark, on every plan. Free forever plan with 50 AI credits a month. Plus is $19 per maker a month billed annually, or $25 monthly (pricing). Best for: product orgs that plan around roadmaps and stakeholder views. Watch out for: pricing is per maker.
Enterpret. A customer intelligence platform that sorts large volumes of tickets, reviews and surveys into themes. No public pricing; it's demo-led (Enterpret). Best for: large companies with very high feedback volumes. Watch out for: a sales-led rollout, with no self-serve start.
Canny. An AI-powered customer feedback platform: a public portal with voting, automatic capture from support and sales tools, a roadmap and a changelog. Free plan for up to 25 tracked users; Pro starts at $79 a month billed yearly (pricing). Best for: teams that want customers to post and vote in public. Watch out for: pricing grows with the number of tracked users.
